Moving Blankets: Six Narrow Pads or Four Wide Ones?

Illustration of furniture partially covered by a pad, with reminders to check supplied pads and measure items.
Generic planning illustration, not a product photo or a complete packing method.

Consider WEN 272406’s six 72 × 40-inch pads when you need more separate sheets and those dimensions fit your measured surfaces with room for the edges. Consider WEN 272804’s four 72 × 80-inch pads when you need broader individual sheets.

Before buying either pack, ask your mover or truck-rental company whether suitable pads are included, how many you can use and whether they must be returned. Skip the purchase if your needs are already covered; otherwise, measure before choosing a pack.

What the two packs contain

WEN lists model 272406 as six 72 × 40-inch padded moving blankets. Its official description specifies nonwoven, 100% polyester material, double-stitched seams and machine washability.

Model 272804 contains four 72 × 80-inch blankets. WEN lists the same material, seam construction and machine-washable care claim for this version. Those shared descriptions do not establish that the two models offer identical cushioning or durability.

Six pads versus four: do the area math

Using the listed dimensions, one narrow pad has 20 square feet of flat area; six total 120 square feet. One wide pad has 40 square feet; four total 160 square feet.

The wider pack therefore contains more nominal flat area despite having fewer pieces. Each wide pad has twice the flat area of a narrow one. This calculation does not tell you how many pieces of furniture a pack will protect. Folding, overlaps, corners and irregular shapes all use material.

Choose the six-pack for a plan that genuinely benefits from six separate sheets. Choose the four-pack when a wider uninterrupted sheet better fits the surfaces on your list. Neither count is a reliable shortcut for “enough for one room.”

WEN 272406 has six 72 by 40-inch pads; 272804 has four 72 by 80-inch pads, each twice the flat area.
Nominal pack areas are 120 and 160 square feet. Folds and overlaps reduce usable coverage.

Measure the surface, then allow for the edges

Write down the width and length of each surface you intend to pad. Then account for the sides and edges you want the blanket to reach. Check both blanket dimensions; total area alone can hide a poor fit.

For a simple planning example, imagine a flat 60 × 30-inch top. A centered 72 × 40-inch pad leaves a nominal 6 inches beyond each short end and 5 inches beyond each long side. A centered 72 × 80-inch pad leaves 6 inches at the ends and 25 inches at the sides.

Those figures are geometry, not recommended wrapping allowances. They do not establish that either pad fully wraps the object. Curved edges, protruding parts and the depth you want to cover change the fit. If your plan needs two pads to overlap, count both before deciding how many packs to buy.

A 60 by 30-inch surface centered on each pad leaves 6-inch end margins and side margins of 5 or 25 inches.
Illustrative flat-top geometry only. Actual furniture shape, sides and overlaps change the fit; these are not recommended wrap allowances.

Care and securing: check the missing details

WEN describes both models as machine-washable, but the product pages reviewed do not provide wash temperature, drying settings or a fastening method. Check the supplied care label before washing and ask WEN if it is unclear.

Plan how the padding will stay in position separately from how the load will be secured for transport. Do not treat a moving blanket as a lifting sling, a tie-down or proof that furniture cannot move inside a vehicle. Follow the mover’s or rental provider’s loading instructions.

This comparison does not establish waterproofing, slip resistance or a damage-prevention guarantee. For an unusually delicate finish or valuable item, ask the mover or furniture maker about an appropriate packing method before relying on a general-purpose pad.

How we compared these packs

We checked WEN’s published specifications and the exact Amazon US listings on October 16, 2026. These are size-based recommendations with our own area and fit calculations, not results from a hands-on protection test. The illustrations are original planning diagrams, not product photographs.
