PetSafe 5 Meal Feeder: Set Aside Dry Portions for Later
Load separate dry-food portions yourself, then let the tray turn at set times. One compartment is open now; four loaded portions remain for later.
Want later portions of dry food to become available at chosen times, instead of leaving them all out at once? The PetSafe 5 Meal feeder rotates a tray of portions you load yourself. One compartment is open immediately, leaving four loaded portions for later. Choose it for timed access to premeasured food, not automatic weighing or a hopper that keeps refilling a bowl.

The clock changes access; you decide the portions
With an open bowl, all the food you put down is available at once. A gravity feeder adds food as the bowl empties. This PetSafe uses a different arrangement: you put each portion into its own compartment, and the timer moves the next compartment beneath the lid’s opening.
That makes the useful buying question specific: do you want to separate the portions yourself now and make later ones accessible on a schedule? The feeder does not measure food from a bulk supply. Each compartment holds up to one cup, which is a capacity limit—not a suggested serving size.

Five compartments means four later portions
The first compartment is already accessible when the feeder is ready to use. At the first scheduled time, the second compartment rotates forward; the remaining loaded compartments follow. A full tray therefore does not provide five future servings after you set it down.
The programmed times repeat daily, but the food does not replenish itself. Plan refills around the portions actually remaining, rather than treating the timer’s available settings as additional meals. Keep regular human checks and a backup care arrangement; this feeder does not replace a caregiver.

The opening also does not identify which pet is eating. In a multi-pet home, it cannot reserve a portion for one animal. Place it indoors where the intended pet can reach it, and check actual tray rotation and access while you are present before relying on the schedule.
The tray comes out; the base stays dry
Separate compartments still need filling and cleaning. Level the food and do not overfill: PetSafe warns that an overfilled tray may not work properly. This guide is limited to dry food; follow that food’s handling and storage directions rather than treating the covered compartments as freshness-preserving storage.

Remove the food tray for hand washing or the dishwasher’s top rack, then dry it completely before replacing it. Wipe the base with a nonabrasive cloth and do not submerge it. The cleaning photo shows the detached tray, not permission to wash the whole feeder in the dishwasher.
Include batteries and a clock check in the purchase
The feeder requires four D alkaline batteries, sold separately. PetSafe says not to use rechargeables or mix old and new batteries. After replacing them, set the current time and program the meal schedule again; do not assume the old settings remain ready to use.

Correct clock time, including AM/PM, matters to when the tray moves. Follow the supplied setup and safety instructions and check that the tray is seated and moving correctly. A programmed display alone does not establish that food was reached or eaten.
Match PetSafe PFD11-13707, 5-Meal, one feeder on the listing. This guide does not cover the two-pack or PetSafe’s hopper and refrigerated feeders. The reason to choose this model is the separation between preparing a portion and making it accessible later, with four later portions per fully loaded tray.
