OXO Cherry & Olive Pitter: Where the Pit Goes
This OXO pitter handles one cherry or olive at a time. See how the cup, plunger and removable shield work with a separate catch bowl.
The OXO Cherry & Olive Pitter is a one-fruit-at-a-time tool, not a batch pitter. Its cup supports the fruit while a metal plunger presses through it. Plan on a separate bowl underneath: the supplier's action photo shows the pits dropping below the clear shield into a bowl.
That distinction matters when choosing a pitter for a bowl of cherries or whole olives. You load each fruit individually, rather than filling several positions and pressing them together.
A cup for the fruit, a bowl for the pits
The clear piece below the cup is a splatter shield. In the product photos its lower end is open, and the action scene shows a catch bowl below it. This is a reading of the pictured design, not a hands-on test of where every pit or drop of juice lands.

OXO says the shield helps protect the work area from juice. Treat that as splatter control, not a promise of zero mess. The pictured bowls and fruit are props, not included accessories.
The recess changes how smaller fruit sits
OXO specifies a generous cup for large cherries, including Bing and Rainier, plus a recessed design for smaller cherries. It also lists compatibility with many varieties of olives—not every olive size or shape.

The useful distinction is the fruit support beneath the plunger. It is not a blade for cutting wedges or slices, and it does not perform the splitting and slicing jobs of an avocado tool.

After pitting, inspect the fruit for any remaining pit or fragments before adding it to a recipe or serving it. A completed squeeze is not proof that every pit came out cleanly. Pitting alone also does not make fruit appropriate for every eater.
What comes apart—and what locks shut
The splatter shield removes for cleaning, and OXO lists the pitter as dishwasher-safe. Follow the supplied care directions rather than assuming a particular rack position or temperature.

The handles lock closed for storage. The side-by-side photo illustrates open and closed positions of one tool; the selected listing contains one pitter, not two. Keep the pressing mechanism away from fingers and follow the product instructions. The storage lock is not a reason to leave it with a child.
The linked selection is Beet, model 11316200. Choose it for individual cherry and olive pitting with a separate catch bowl—not for processing several fruits in one press. This guide is based on OXO documentation and supplier photos; we have not tested pitting success, splatter or grip comfort.
