OXO Pull-Out Display Scale: Read the Weight Past a Wide Bowl
The OXO 11214800 moves its wired readout out from under a bowl’s rim. See what changes, where the cord stays, and what the removable top does not mean.
A wide mixing bowl can hide a scale’s numbers even when it sits properly on the platform. The OXO Good Grips 11-lb scale, model 11214800, addresses that specific problem: its display pulls forward while the bowl stays on the weighing surface.
This is a useful design to consider for weighing into broad bowls or plates. The trade-off is a tethered readout that occupies room in front of the base—not a wireless screen you can place anywhere.
Move the numbers, not the bowl
With a fixed readout, an overhanging rim can sit between your eyes and the display. OXO lets the display slide away from that obstruction. Its product photos show the intended arrangement: bowl above, readout farther forward.

The advantage is visibility while adding ingredients, not a larger weighing platform. It does not establish that every oversized bowl will fit or that every rim will clear the screen. We have not measured the maximum extension or tested bowl compatibility.
The cord is part of the design

Look at the connection between the two pieces. The display remains attached by a cord; “pull-out” is not “remote.” Leave a clear spot in front of the scale for the readout rather than planning to put it across the counter.
When you finish, the display slides back against the base for storage. The two-button layout shown here has power/zero on the left and unit conversion on the right.
A removable top, not a washable electronic base

The stainless steel platform lifts off separately, as OXO’s photo shows. That is a different feature from the sliding display: one separates the top from the base; the other changes where you read the weight.
Do not treat the removable top as permission to immerse the base or put the entire scale in a dishwasher. Follow the care instructions supplied with this exact model.
The bowl still counts toward the load

The zero function lets you exclude the bowl’s weight from the ingredient reading. It does not remove that weight from the scale: bowl plus contents must stay within the stated 11-lb capacity.
For this purchase, the distinguishing feature is the pull-out readout. It solves a sightline problem; it is not evidence of greater weighing accuracy.
