Should You Buy a Waterproof Pet Blanket for the Sofa or Bed?

A loose waterproof pet blanket can make sense for one favorite resting spot. Measure first, plan for laundry, and skip it if your current protection already works.

The short answer

Consider the PetAmi Waterproof Fleece Pet Blanket if you want a removable liquid barrier over your pet’s usual sofa or bed spot and can live with adjusting and washing a loose throw. The version here is Plaid Navy, XL 60 × 80 inches, sold as one blanket.

Skip it if your existing protection already does the job, you only need to collect dry fur, or you need a fitted cover that stays put without attention. A waterproof layer is not much help if your pet pushes it away from the area you meant to protect.

What you get, and what you do not

PetAmi describes a three-layer construction with a waterproof membrane, a fleece face and a sherpa reverse. It lists polyester fabric and machine-washable care. That makes this a different purchase from an ordinary lounging throw: the reason to consider it is the liquid barrier, not just another soft blanket.

Think of it as a removable rectangle, not a fitted sofa cover or a mattress encasement. Do not count on non-slip performance or protection for uncovered cushions, seams or mattress sides. It is not a chewproof solution, and “waterproof” should not be read as a promise that any spill, in any position, can be left unattended.

Generic sofa sketches compare a loose layer over one spot with the separate fitted-cover category; check repositioning, fit and attachment, and do not equate fit with waterproofing.
Generic category comparison, not a PetAmi fit or construction demonstration. A fitted cover is a different purchase; its fit alone does not establish a liquid barrier.

Will 60 × 80 inches cover the right place?

Measure the area your pet actually uses from side to side and front to back. Include any drape you want over an edge: fabric hanging down the front cannot also cover the seat. A sofa’s overall width or a bed’s size name does not answer this question.

Generic measuring guide, not a PetAmi fit demonstration. Test your intended coverage with a 60 × 80-inch rectangle.

Before ordering, mark out a 60 × 80-inch rectangle on an existing sheet and try it in both orientations. Check the back edge, the front edge and anywhere your pet tends to stretch or turn. This is a coverage mock-up, not a test of how the PetAmi fabric will grip or drape.

If the rectangle is too small for your intended area, skip this version rather than relying on optimistic placement. If it fits, remember that a loose layer can still bunch or shift. Check its position after your pet settles and whenever you notice it moving.

The laundry tradeoff is real

The manufacturer’s instructions are machine wash cold and tumble dry low. Check the delivered care label and your machines’ load guidance before washing. A large reusable layer means an additional item to wash, dry and put back, so make sure that routine is realistic for your home.

Three-step generic workflow: remove the used layer, wash and fully dry it, then replace it and check coverage.
Generic laundry plan. Decide how to handle the resting spot while the blanket is being washed and dried.

Plan for the uncovered interval. You may already have another suitable protective layer, or you may be able to keep that spot out of use until the blanket is fully dry. There is no need to buy a second blanket automatically. An ordinary spare throw can collect fur, but do not assume it provides the same liquid barrier.

Remove wet mess promptly rather than leaving it on the blanket. Check the furniture underneath and inspect the blanket for damage; do not keep relying on a damaged layer as guaranteed protection. This is a cleanup aid, not a reason to ignore what is happening beneath it.

Buy it for a specific spot, or skip it

  • Consider it: You want a washable liquid-barrier layer for a measured resting area, and occasional repositioning and laundry are acceptable.
  • Skip it: Your current cover works, dry fur is the only problem, this size does not cover your target area, or you need a secure fitted solution.
Three reasons to skip buying: existing protection works, dry fur is the only issue, or the chosen size does not cover the intended area.
A need-first buying check. Keep effective existing protection, distinguish dry-fur cleanup from a liquid barrier, and skip a size that does not cover your target area.
