TempPro TP49: A Simple Way to Check Room Humidity?

Choose the TempPro TP49 if you want to read a room’s current humidity and temperature on a small, standalone display. It is a useful first step before buying equipment to change the humidity. Keep an existing meter if it already gives you the readings you need.

The key trade-off is simple: this model has no wireless connection or backlight. Choose something else if you need readings on your phone, remote alerts, or a lit screen in a dark room.

Choose the basic white, single-unit version

This guide covers the TP49 sold as “White Indoor Thermometer,” quantity one. The same Amazon listing also offers Bluetooth and indoor/outdoor options; those are different products. The basic TP49 displays readings where you place it rather than sending them to your phone.

Decision diagram: choose the TP49 for reading the display in the room; choose a different connected model if phone readings or remote alerts are essential.
Decide how you want to read the measurement before choosing a model. The TP49 is the local-display option.

What the reading does and does not tell you

The display refreshes about every 10 seconds. TempPro specifies humidity tolerance of ±2 percentage points from 30% to 80% relative humidity, and ±3 points outside that range. Small changes should not be treated as perfectly precise measurements.

Read the number as well as the face icon. The “Comfort” face requires both 30–60% humidity and 68–79°F temperature; outside the manual’s icon conditions, no face may appear. These are the device’s labels, not a diagnosis or proof that a room is healthy.

The meter measures conditions; it does not add or remove moisture. Our suggestion is to note readings at different times before deciding whether another appliance would solve a problem you actually have.

Pick a spot you can check easily

The stand, magnetic back, and hanging hole give you placement choices. A tabletop avoids adding a wall fixing; use the magnet only where it actually holds securely. The display is small and unlit, so choose a position where you can comfortably read it rather than assuming it will be visible across the room.

It uses one AAA battery. Insert it with the polarity shown in the compartment, and use the rear button to select °F or °C. Do not immerse the unit or leave it exposed to extreme heat or cold. Remove the battery if storing it for more than four months.
