Will a Temporary Paper Shade Work in Your New Home?
A surface-first buying guide for an uncovered window after moving, including when to skip adhesive paper shades and keep an existing covering.
Start with the surface, not the shade
If the bedroom already has a usable covering, keep it while you choose a permanent one. An uncovered window does not automatically make an adhesive paper shade the right next purchase. Consider the Redi Shade Original Blackout only when the mounting surface is suitable and you have a genuine short-term need.

Redi Shade calls for a clean, dry, flat, smooth surface. It excludes wallpaper, fresh paint, high-gloss or textured finishes, drywall, and bare, varnished, or lacquered wood. If that describes your mounting area, skip this product rather than trying stronger tape. No-drill installation does not mean damage-free removal or universal rental suitability.
In a newly painted home, do not turn a generic waiting period into permission to attach adhesive. Check the paint’s cure instructions and retain the shade maker’s fresh-paint exclusion. If the finish is uncertain, resolve that before ordering.

Match the panel to the job
The selected black paper shade measures 36 inches wide by 72 inches long before trimming. Measure the area you intend to cover and the actual mounting location, not just the visible glass. A panel can be made narrower; trimming cannot make it wider. If the measurements do not suit your window, stop and choose a different covering plan.
“Blackout” is the product name, not a promise of a completely dark bedroom. The manufacturer advertises up to 99% light blocking for the family, but that is not an independent room test. Fit and uncovered edges matter. Do not rely on this guide for guaranteed nighttime privacy, thermal performance, or a particular sleep result.

Count the shades you actually need
This recommendation identifies the Amazon six-pack: Redi Shade Original Blackout pleated paper shades in black, 36 by 72 inches each, model 1617201, ASIN B000SDROMG. The listing specifies six shades, twelve clips, and installation instructions. Check all of those details together when selecting a variant.
The manufacturer’s direct Original black paper listing is a four-pack and also offers a wider size. It supports the family’s instructions, but it is not evidence that your Amazon order contains four shades. White light-filtering paper is another variant, not the same recommendation.
Count eligible uncovered windows before committing to a multipack. If you need only one panel, six may be more than this short-term problem warrants. Waiting for a planned permanent covering can be the better purchase decision when an existing covering already meets your needs.

Allow time for installation and dry care
No drilling is needed, but width trimming requires a sharp kitchen or utility knife according to the Original instructions. Read those instructions before cutting. They call for cleaning the mounting surface with alcohol and a lint-free cloth, letting it dry fully, pressing across the shade’s width for at least 30 seconds, and waiting at least 30 minutes before operating it.

Included clips hold the shade at the chosen height. The adhesive is intended for one application, so do not buy it expecting reliable transfer to another window. For Original paper, lightly dust or use an upholstery vacuum attachment; do not wet-clean it. Keep it away from flames and space heaters. It is not flame resistant.

The buying decision
Choose this six-pack only if the surfaces, measurements, quantity, and temporary-paper tradeoffs fit your actual windows. Otherwise, skip it. This is a source-based buying guide, not a hands-on test; current price, stock, seller, and delivery timing have not been verified.
