Peak Design Capture V3: Will It Fit Your Backpack Strap?
Capture V3 strap-width and bolt limits, Standard Plate tripod compatibility and the release-button lock: check the complete camera-to-backpack connection.
The Capture V3 carries a camera on a backpack strap through two separate connections: a clamp around the strap and a removable plate on the camera. Both must fit. Its release button also has a lock that Peak Design recommends always engaging.
This guide covers the Black Capture V3 with Standard Plate, CP-BK-3—not the clip-only version. The useful purchase question is whether that complete mounting chain works with your strap, camera and tripod.

The strap goes between the clamp halves
The camera plate does not fasten the clip to your backpack. The clip's backplate opens around the strap, and the clamping bolts hold the two halves together.

Peak Design lists these strap-fit limits:
- Width: up to 2.5 inches (6.4 cm).
- Thickness with standard thumbscrews: up to 0.6 inch (1.5 cm).
- Thickness with the included hex-head clamping bolts: up to 0.88 inch (2.2 cm).
The larger thickness figure is not the thumbscrew limit. Check the actual mounting section of your strap, including its padding; the photograph does not establish fit for a different backpack.

The Standard Plate stays with the camera
The included plate screws into the bottom of the camera and docks into the clip. Check your camera's mount and the space around its base before choosing this setup. A strap that fits the clamp does not settle the camera-side connection.
Peak Design describes the Standard Plate as Arca-compatible, so it can also serve a compatible tripod clamp. That does not mean every tripod accepts it. Match your tripod's actual mounting system. Manfrotto RC2 compatibility requires the separate Dual Plate option; that plate is not included in CP-BK-3.
The release button's lock is part of the setup
The quick-release button lets you remove the docked camera. Peak Design recommends always engaging its lock: with the lock disengaged, unintended release remains possible in some situations. Follow the supplied attachment and release instructions; the lock is not a guarantee against every accident.

A belt changes the mounting location, not the checks
Capture can also clamp onto a suitable belt. Apply the same width and bolt-dependent thickness limits, then assess where your camera and lens will sit at your hip. A belt photo cannot establish comfort or clearance for your equipment and clothing.

The CP-BK-3 box contains one clip, one Standard Plate, two hand-drive bolts, two hex-drive bolts, a 4 mm hex wrench and a microfiber pouch. The camera, lens, backpack and belt shown in the examples are not included.
Choose this plate-included configuration when you need both halves of the camera-to-strap connection. Do not substitute the clip-only listing or assume an existing tripod plate will dock into Capture.
