KitchenAid KSMVSA: Slices and Shreds for the Same Meal
Choose fixed slicing and shredding drums for salad or casserole prep. The KSMVSA needs a KitchenAid stand mixer and collects food in a separate bowl.
Cucumber slices and carrot shreds belong in the same salad, but they need different cuts. The KitchenAid KSMVSA combines a slicing drum with two shredding drums, powered by a KitchenAid household stand mixer’s attachment hub. Choose it for that mix of cuts, collected in a separate bowl beneath the outlet. A compatible stand mixer is required and sold separately.
One slicing choice, two shredding choices
For the cucumber-and-carrot salad, the slicing drum handles the cucumber and the medium shredding drum is a documented choice for carrots. For a casserole topping, the manual lists cheese with either shredding drum. Match the drum to the ingredient and cut you want; three blades alone are not a reason to buy the set.
- 3 mm slicing drum: the set’s single nominal slice thickness.
- 4 mm medium shredding drum: a separate shredded cut.
- 6 mm coarse shredding drum: the coarser shredding option.
Those are KitchenAid’s nominal blade specifications, not measurements from our kitchen. They describe three fixed drums, not three slice-thickness settings. If you need adjustable slicing thickness, this set does not meet that requirement.

The mixer supplies the power
The attachment connects to the mixer’s front power hub. It uses the mixer’s motor to turn the selected drum; it is not a standalone, hand-powered slicer. The documented hosts are KitchenAid household stand mixers, not handheld mixers or other brands.

Check the attachment instructions for your exact mixer before ordering. You are buying the cutting attachment, not the red stand mixer shown in the demonstration photos.
The ingredient still has to fit
The two-part food pusher provides a smaller inner pusher for narrow ingredients such as carrots and a larger arrangement for wider pieces. That accommodates different food sizes, but it does not eliminate preparation: the manual calls for cutting food to fit the feed tube.

The blades are sharp. Never feed by hand; use only the supplied food pushers. Turn the mixer off and unplug it before assembly or removal, and wait for the blade to stop completely before disassembly or removing food. Follow the complete supplied instructions.
Collect the cut you chose
A receiving bowl sits under the outlet, separate from the mixer’s normal mixing-bowl position. That lets the salad vegetables or cheese collect in a bowl you choose, provided it fits beneath the attachment. The attachment cuts the ingredients; it does not toss the salad or mix the casserole.

The photographed shreds illustrate the output form, not a verified 4 mm or 6 mm result. Follow the model’s food guidance rather than assuming every cheese or hard ingredient will process alike.
Select KSMVSA, White, 3 Blades, Prep Attachment. The package includes the attachment housing, three drums, two-part pusher and storage case. Stand mixer, receiving bowl and food are separate. Amazon’s “#11637” size label is a retailer selection label, not the model number.
For cleaning, wipe the housing by hand with a soft, damp cloth; do not immerse it or put it in the dishwasher. The manual allows the blades and accessories on the dishwasher’s top rack.
