Do Your Recipes Need a Hand Mixer?
Keep a whisk, spoon or mixer that already works. Consider a hand mixer for recurring batter mixing or whipping only when setup, handheld use and cleanup fit.
If your whisk, spoon or current mixer handles the recipes you make, keep it. A hand mixer is worth considering when batter mixing or whipping is a recurring job you want a powered tool for, and you are willing to hold it, set it up and clean it afterward.
The example here is the KitchenAid KHM512ER in Empire Red: one mixer with two stainless-steel Turbo Beater accessories.
Start with the recipes you repeat
Think about what you actually make, such as cake batter or whipped cream. If those jobs are occasional and your existing tools are adequate, there is no need to add an appliance. If you already have a mixer that suits them, a second one needs a specific reason to take up storage space.
For recurring work without an adequate tool, check the entire routine: a suitable bowl and outlet, holding and guiding the mixer during use, and cleaning and storing it afterward. If those commitments do not fit, wait. If you want hands-free mixing or bread-dough kneading, compare a different type of mixer.

Five speeds, still a handheld job
The KHM512ER has five speed settings. KitchenAid identifies batter mixing and whipping among its intended uses. You still hold and guide the mixer; it does not provide the hands-free setup of a stand mixer.

Plan the bowl and outlet together
This is a corded mixer with a swivel cord that locks to either side. Consider where your bowl will sit relative to a suitable outlet and where the cord will run. Cord positioning does not tell you whether it will reach your chosen workspace, so check the current product information against your setup before buying.
The selected package does not include a bowl. Make sure you have a bowl suited to your recipe and the mixer’s instructions, rather than counting the bowl in a listing photo as part of the purchase.

Two beaters, with cleanup to account for
The package includes a pair of stainless-steel Turbo Beater accessories and has a beater-eject button. It does not include dough hooks, a separate whisk or a storage bag. The included beaters are not designed for mixing or kneading bread dough.

The removable beaters are dishwasher-safe; the motor body is not. KitchenAid’s instructions require unplugging the mixer before attaching or removing accessories and before cleaning. Follow the complete supplied instructions for use and care. Allow storage space for the body, cord and both beaters, not just the mixer body.
Buy only if the job is there
Keep tools that already work for your recipes. Consider this hand mixer only when recurring batter or whipping tasks justify another appliance and the bowl, outlet, handheld use, cleanup and storage all fit your routine.
Before ordering, confirm KHM512ER, Empire Red, one mixer and two beaters. The listing also has a separate “Emp Red” choice; do not treat it as the selected Empire Red option.
