GE 30966 Night Lights: A Simple Choice for a Dark Hallway?

Choose the GE 30966 two-pack if you want a small hallway guide light that turns on when the room gets dark, without an app or a daily switch routine. Keep your existing light if it already does that job. Choose a different type if you want light only when someone walks past.

This guide covers model 30966, the two-pack with white housings. Amazon labels the option “Warm White,” but its title and A+ section give conflicting color temperatures. If matching a particular light color matters, do not rely on this listing’s Kelvin claims.

Choose the trigger you actually want

The light sensor responds to the room’s brightness: the LED turns on in darkness and off when the room brightens. It does not wait for someone to pass. That makes it a straightforward choice for a hallway where you want a guide light throughout dark periods, but a poor fit if any unattended light bothers you.

Decision diagram: choose light sensing for illumination while a room is dark, motion sensing for illumination triggered by movement, and a separately specified backup light for outages.
Pick the trigger first. The GE 30966 follows ambient light, not movement.

Treat this plug-in light as ordinary mains-powered lighting, not an outage plan. Its documented power source is a wall outlet; we would not rely on it when that supply fails.

Check the outlet before buying

You need a dry indoor location and an exposed wall outlet where the light has ventilation and cannot touch bedding or other material that could create a fire hazard. The packaging rules out wet or damp locations, extension cords, dimmer-controlled receptacles, and DC-to-AC inverter systems.

Placement checklist for a dry indoor exposed wall outlet with ventilation and clearance from bedding, excluding extension cords, dimmer-controlled outlets, wet locations and inverter power.
Check the intended outlet and nearby materials before choosing where each light will go.

The housing can be positioned to leave another receptacle available, according to Jasco. Check the space needed by any neighboring plug rather than assuming a bulky charger will fit. The label specifies 120VAC, 60Hz. This is an adult-use electrical product, not a toy or a light for children to handle.

Do you need two?

The pack contains two lights. Identify two suitable spots before buying; there is no benefit in replacing working lights just to match. If your goal is to illuminate an entire room or read comfortably, this guide light is not a substitute for choosing adequate task lighting.
