Cuisinart Griddler vs. Deluxe: Which Heat Controls Do You Need?
Choose the Griddler Deluxe GR-150NAS if you want to set the upper and lower plates separately. The GR-4NP1 fits sandwiches and open cooking built around one selected heat mode. Both have reversible plates and open flat. Cuisinart lists the GR-4NP1 as discontinued; the Deluxe selection here is specifically GR-150NAS.

What the controls and cover change
The knobs do different jobs
On the GR-4NP1, the center selector activates Grill/Panini or Griddle. The two outer temperature knobs belong to those alternative modes. Even with one ridged plate beside a smooth one, the manual directs you to choose either mode. The listing’s “dual temperature controls” wording does not mean each plate gets its own setting.

The GR-150NAS instead has Upper Plate and Lower Plate controls. Each plate can have its own setting or be switched off. When the appliance lies flat, that gives you two separately adjustable cooking surfaces. When closed, the controls still refer to the upper and lower plates around the food.

This is the useful upgrade when your recipes call for different plate settings. If you only want a smooth surface beside a ridged one, either model provides that layout. Separate settings do not ensure that different foods finish together.
For the Deluxe, ordinary temperature adjustment runs from Warm to 450°F. Its separate 500°F Sear function lasts up to two minutes, then returns to the selected setting. Treat it as a timed boost, not a continuous 500°F griddle setting or a food-doneness temperature.
Pressing a sandwich versus holding the lid above it
Both covers can rest on food for contact cooking. For several panini at once, the GR-4NP1 manual calls for consistent sandwich thickness so the cover can close evenly. That is a lid-fit consideration separate from the choice of smooth or ridged plates.

The Deluxe adds a cover-height adjuster with six preset positions and a documented Top Melt setup. If you want heat from above without pressing the top of the food, that supported raised-lid arrangement is a specific reason to choose GR-150NAS.

Before choosing an offer
Match the full model and selection, not just “Griddler Deluxe.” Our Deluxe link is B0GNWKJFNW, New Version Griddler Deluxe, GR-150NAS, Stainless Steel, one unit. The older choice is B002YD99Y4, GR-4NP1, Griddler, Brushed Stainless Steel, one unit, also listed with part number GR-4N. Discontinued status does not establish whether a particular GR-4NP1 offer is available.
The older model has conflicting voltage information. Amazon’s GR-4NP1 field says 110V, while the manual linked from its exact Cuisinart page specifies 120-volt outlets only. We do not treat those labels as equivalent. Verify the actual rating label and supplied instructions, and resolve any mismatch with Cuisinart before use. The selected GR-150NAS listing and its linked manual both specify 120V. This comparison does not establish dual-voltage, overseas or converter compatibility.
Both models have removable plates for washing after cooling; that is shared convenience, not a cleanup winner. Unplug and let the appliance cool completely before removing plates or cleaning; both manuals specify at least 30 minutes. Use indoors, keep clear of appliance garages and overhead cabinets, and follow the complete supplied hot-surface and handling instructions.
Choose for the control you will use
Choose GR-4NP1 when one selected heat mode covers your sandwich and open-cooking plans, after checking its discontinued-model offer and electrical documentation. Choose GR-150NAS Deluxe when separate plate settings or a supported raised-lid position are part of the job. Reversible plates and an open-flat layout are reasons to consider either, not reasons by themselves to move up to Deluxe.
