Do You Need a Wired Turntable for Your Records?

Keep a record-playing system that already works. A wired turntable makes more sense for regular record listening when the connections, space and upkeep fit.

If you already have a record-playing system that works for you, keep it. Consider a wired turntable when you own records you want to play regularly and do not have a suitable player. For an occasional session, access to a shared system may be enough. If listening to physical records is not the goal, your existing digital-listening setup remains a valid choice.

The Audio-Technica AT-LP60X-BK is a fully automatic belt-drive model for 33⅓- and 45-rpm records. The decision is whether it fits your records, receiving equipment and routine, not whether vinyl must sound better than what you use now.

Check the receiving input first

Look at the input labels on the equipment you plan to use. The turntable’s built-in phono preamp lets it send either phono-level or line-level audio. It does not supply the amplification needed to drive passive speakers.

The rear analog output uses the 3.5 mm end of the audio cable; the red and white RCA plugs go to the receiving equipment.
  • Powered speakers with a compatible analog AUX or LINE input: use the turntable’s LINE setting.
  • An amplifier or receiver with an AUX or LINE input: use LINE, with passive speakers connected to that amplifier or receiver.
  • An amplifier or receiver with a compatible PHONO input: use PHONO, with speakers connected to the amplifier or receiver.

Match both the input type and the cable connection. The included audio cable has a 3.5 mm plug at the turntable and red and white RCA plugs at the receiving end. The turntable’s analog socket is not a headphone output. A matching-looking socket alone does not establish compatibility; check the receiving equipment’s instructions.

Connection choices: LINE to compatible powered speakers, LINE to an amplifier AUX or LINE input, or PHONO to an amplifier PHONO input. Passive speakers need an amplifier.
Conceptual connection choices, not physical wiring or a speaker bundle. Check the exact receiving input and equipment instructions.

Count the rest of the listening setup

This selection is one turntable, not a complete speaker system. Keep suitable powered speakers or an amplifier-and-speaker setup you already own. If you lack that equipment, include it in the purchase decision before ordering the turntable.

AC adapter, audio cable with a 3.5 mm plug and red and white RCA plugs, and 45-rpm adapter.
The power adapter, audio cable and 45-rpm adapter are shown here. Speakers and an amplifier are separate equipment.

The supplied AC adapter powers the turntable; the audio cable carries its signal to the receiving equipment. This is the wired model, not a Bluetooth or USB version. If your plan depends on wireless pairing or a USB computer connection, this selection does not meet it.

Make room for records and upkeep

Choose a level position with room to open the dust cover, reach the controls and handle a record. Account for the cables behind the unit. The manual advises against placing the turntable next to speakers because of vibration and acoustic pressure; do not judge the location only by whether the closed unit fits.

There is initial platter-and-belt assembly, so follow the supplied setup instructions before use. Automatic operation handles starting and returning the tonearm, but you still place and turn over records, select the appropriate speed and size, and care for the records and stylus.

Allow for cleaning and eventual wear-part replacement using the applicable product instructions. If that hands-on routine is not something you want, adding a turntable will not make record listening fit your habits.

Buy for a routine you expect to keep

Consider the AT-LP60X-BK when regular listening to your owned 33⅓- or 45-rpm records fills a real gap, the receiving input and amplification are sorted out, and you have a workable location. Keep an adequate owned or shared system, or wait while those checks remain unresolved.

The linked selection is the black Audio-Technica AT-LP60X-BK, Black / Wired / Turntable, one unit. Confirm that model and selection before ordering, rather than switching to a different color, connection version or speaker bundle.
