Does Your Pencil Routine Need a Corded Sharpener?

A corded sharpener needs a suitable pencil routine and a powered work spot. Check material, fit and bin care before replacing an adequate setup.

Keep a manual or shared sharpener that already serves the wood-cased pencils you use. Consider a corded desktop model when you repeatedly sharpen pencils for writing or drawing, your current arrangement leaves a real gap, and you are willing to make room for power and bin cleanup.

The X-ACTO School Pro 1670X is a corded electric pencil sharpener. This guide covers Black, one unit. Choose it for the pencils and sharpening routine you actually have.

Start with the gap in your current setup

A shared sharpener may already be available when you need it. A manual one may handle the amount of sharpening you do. If either arrangement is adequate, keep it rather than buying another tool for the same job.

A dedicated powered spot is more relevant when sharpening is a recurring task and access to your existing setup is inconvenient. Before buying, decide where the unit and cord would go and who would empty the bin. If those answers are uncertain, wait.

Buying decision: keep an adequate manual or shared sharpener; consider a corded model for repeated suitable-pencil use; wait if the need, material or work spot is uncertain.
Start with a recurring need your current sharpener does not meet.

Check the pencils you actually use

The front selector has six openings. That gives you openings to check against your pencils, not a promise that every shape or material is suitable. Confirm the size and shape of your usual wood-cased pencils against the supplied instructions.

The six-opening selector is visible above the bin. It does not establish that every pencil will fit.

The manual excludes crayons, chalk and soft waxy pencils. Do not assume that a colored pencil is compatible simply because it has a wooden casing. If you cannot confirm its material and fit, resolve that before buying the sharpener for it.

Understand what stops at the finished point

X-ACTO’s manual says the cutter disengages when the point is finished, but the motor continues running. The user still removes the pencil. Do not choose this model expecting the motor to switch off automatically when a pencil is sharp.

At the finished point, the cutter disengages but the motor keeps running. The user removes the pencil; this is not finished-point motor shutoff.
The manual distinguishes cutter disengagement from motor shutoff. Follow the complete supplied instructions.

This distinction matters if you want a hands-off routine. The sharpener still needs your attention; the cutter behavior does not turn it into an unattended batch machine.

Allow for power and bin care

The linked manual specifies 120 V / 60 Hz. Confirm that the exact unit suits your power supply before buying; do not assume worldwide compatibility. Also check the actual space and cord route at the spot where you intend to use it.

The shavings bin needs regular emptying and must be correctly seated. Unplug before emptying or cleaning, do not immerse the sharpener, and keep it out of reach of small children, as the manual instructs.

A person empties the removed School Pro shavings bin into a waste bin beside the sharpener; the plug is not visible.
The listing photo shows the bin being emptied; the plug state is not visible. The manual says to unplug before emptying.

Those are ongoing ownership tasks. If you would rather keep a portable manual sharpener or use an adequate shared one than manage a corded unit and its bin, stay with that arrangement.

Choose the exact one-unit option

Consider this model only when repeated suitable-pencil sharpening leaves an unmet need and you accept the powered work spot, attention and cleanup it requires. Keep an adequate existing setup; wait if pencil compatibility or the work location is unresolved.

Where to buy

X-ACTO School Pro Electric Pencil Sharpener 1670X, Black, one unit

Repeated suitable wood-cased-pencil sharpening leaves an unmet need, and a dedicated powered work spot, attention and bin care fit your routine.

Keep in mind: Keep an adequate manual or shared sharpener. Confirm pencil material and geometry, power suitability and work location. Cutter disengagement at a finished point does not stop the motor; the user removes the pencil.
