Do Your Gripping Jobs Need Adjustable Pliers?
Adjustable toothed jaws need a real job. Check the parts, finish and working space before replacing adequate pliers or a wrench you already own.
Keep the pliers or wrench you own if they already fit the parts you regularly work on. Consider adjustable toothed pliers when gripping round parts or exposed nuts is a recurring need, your existing tools leave a specific gap, and the material and finish suit toothed jaws.
The KNIPEX Cobra 87 01 250 has push-button adjustment and 25 positions. This guide covers one 10-inch tool with red plastic-coated handles, not a set or an insulated version.
Name the part, not just the project
Think back to your last few household hardware jobs. Did you need to grip a round part or the outside of a nut, or did you need a driver for a recessed screw? The latter is not a reason to buy these pliers.
For recurring gripping work, identify the part’s shape, size and finish. Compare that need with your current pliers or wrench before adding another tool. If an owned wrench already fits the nut and suits the job, keep it. A broad intention to do more DIY does not establish a missing tool.
The teeth are a trade-off
The Cobra’s gripping surfaces are serrated. KNIPEX explains that the teeth bite into the material and can leave marks, which matters if you want to preserve a visible finish. Do not treat these bare jaws as a gentle, nonmarking choice for decorative fittings.

Soft protective jaws are separate accessories, not included in this one-tool selection. They also change how the tool grips. If preserving a finish is central to the job, choose the tool and any accessories for that requirement rather than assuming covers make every application suitable.
Keep length and capacity separate
The 10-inch label describes overall tool length. KNIPEX lists a maximum round-pipe jaw opening of 2 inches for this model; that is not a capacity for every shape, including hex nuts.

Compare the actual part with the specifications for its shape. Neither the length nor the round-pipe figure tells you whether the head and handles will have room around your particular hardware.
Check the space around the part
Look beyond whether the jaws can reach the part. Nearby surfaces and other hardware also affect the space available for the whole tool. A close-up listing photo cannot settle that fit check for you.

Confirm that the intended work is appropriate for you to undertake and follow the relevant product and project instructions. The pictured fitting is an example, not a recommendation to loosen or repair something similar.
Confirm the exact one-tool version
Select 87 01 250, 10 inches, one red plastic-coated tool. Do not transfer features from another Cobra size, handle type or bundle. This model is not electrically insulated and provides no protection for live electrical work. Red handles do not establish an insulation rating.

Consider it only when you can name a recurring unmet gripping task and have checked the part, finish and working space. Keep an adequate owned tool otherwise; wait if the job or fit is still unclear. View the KNIPEX Cobra 87 01 250 on Amazon.
