How to Choose a Luggage Scale
Check your baggage allowance, compare grip and attachment designs, and use a luggage scale safely before departure. Manufacturer specifications guide the examples.

Check your booking allowance, then choose a weighing setup you can use safely.

A portable scale can help when you repack during a trip or bring purchases home. If you already have access to a suitable scale and travel comfortably below your allowance, you may not need another item.
Start with the full bag, not the scale’s capacity
Check the allowance for your exact booking, including connections. Finish packing before weighing. A hanging scale requires the entire bag to clear the floor; a two-handed grip does not make the bag lighter. Use another weighing arrangement if the lift is difficult.
Compare the grip and reading process
Both researched examples publish a 110-pound/50-kilogram capacity. That is the scale’s limit, not an airline allowance. Display increments are not an accuracy guarantee. Leave practical room below the booking limit rather than aiming for an exact number; no universal buffer guarantees an airport scale will agree.
Etekcity EL11 Silver
The compact example lists 0.1-pound/50-gram increments, lb/kg modes and a CR2032 battery. Choose it only if its grip and hook-to-ring attachment work with your hands and luggage.

EatSmart ESLS-01 Silver
The alternative uses a two-handed SmartGrip handle, clip buckle and audible locked-reading signal. The maker lists 0.1-pound/0.1-kilogram increments and a CR2032 battery. It still requires a full bag lift.

Use the attachment sequence for your model
Etekcity EL11
1. Zero unloaded

2. Hook to ring

3. Lift level; wait for lock

EatSmart ESLS-01
1. Buckle, then zero

2. Lift with both hands

3. Beep + HOLD

Inspect the strap, connection and carrying handle. Lift only if comfortable and safe.
EL11: Power on with no load on the triangle ring. Select lb or kg; use Z/T if the display is not zero. Pass the webbing through the carrying handle and secure its hook onto the triangle ring. Lift gently with the scale horizontal and balanced. Wait for the reading to stabilize, flash three times and lock, then lower the bag. To reweigh, unload or slacken the belt and press Z/T.
ESLS-01: Secure the clip buckle around the carrying handle. Keep the strap slack while powering on and waiting for zero; press ON/OFF once if it does not zero. Select lb or kg. Grip with both hands and lift steadily. After the beep and HOLD indication, lower the bag and read.
Inspect the strap, hook or buckle and load-bearing carrying handle. Do not use damaged parts or attach to a zipper or decorative loop. Check the battery and correct unit; avoid swinging the bag. If readings vary substantially, troubleshoot the attachment and operation rather than averaging away a problem. Reweigh after packing changes and include the packed scale itself in the final load.
